Two months ago, when the iPad App Store hit the 10.000 available apps mark, we said that 20.000 would be available by August. This morning I opened the App Store app on my iPad and found out that, yes, 20.690 iPad apps are available.

Square Enix Releases Chaos Rings for iPad
I’ve been waiting for Chaos Rings to come to the iPad ever since I saw the first iPhone version and read some enthusiastic reviews here and there on the internet. Finally, last night Apple approved the “HD” version of Chaos Rings which comes to the tablet with a bigger resolution, a higher price and…that’s it. No new features, no additional stuff - it’s just a bigger version. But still, it’s Chaos Rings.
As for the game itself:
“The story revolves around a tournament where combatants fight for their lives: the Ark Arena. Upon choosing a pair of characters, one male and one female, you will then have to fight against the other pairs. Each pair has their own story, and the truth behind the Ark Arena will not be revealed until each story is completed.”
Chaos Rings is available at $15.99 in the App Store. Check out a gameplay video below.
The iPad App Store gets its own Genius
If your iPad has been collecting dust on the bookshelf, you may want to visit the App Store to check out a new Genius tab. If your iPad app collection is looking a little slim, maybe you’ll find something relevant to your interests – the Genius tab is being slowly rolled out as a completely new in addition to items like Featured or Top Sites, so keep an eye out for this “brilliant” update and be sure to let us know if you actually find Genius useful.
MiTube: Free and Simple Youtube Downloader for iPhone & iPad [Update: Removed]
Update: We knew this was going to happen. Apple removed the app.
Of all the apps in the App Store, I haven’t seen really great Youtube apps. Maybe because Apple’s one is installed by default and Youtube’s mobile website is even better than Apple’s app? Who knows. Anyway, here comes a new one: MiTube, formerly known as MxTube and sold on Cydia, is now available as a universal app for free in the App Store.
The app is very simple, but useful: you search for a video on Youtube, then you decided if you want to stream it or download it. You can choose to download low-quality or high-quality versions, and HD when available.
MiTube is available for free in the App Store here.
Farts VS. Zombies - Because Someone Needed To Make A Game Featuring Hitler and Chuck Norris
The guys over at Mutant Games surely know what’s wrong with the App Store. Games about farts, zombies, Chuck Norris. Hitler references, unicorn jokes, more zombie games. This is exactly what’s wrong with the App Store.
And it’s coming all together in a single iPhone game.
Apple Launches 4 New Sections in the App Store
During the weekend Apple introduced 4 new sections in the App Store, both for iPhone and iPad:
- Digital Nomads, Apps for Designers
- Huddle Games: Multiple Players. One iPad.
When is Apple going to launch a section that collects all the sections they introduced in the App Store, though?
Terminology’s First Two Weeks Sales Figures
Terminology is one of the best reference apps currently avaialable on the iPad: it’s great looking dictionary for the English language, which Cody reviewed a few weeks ago. Since then the app has been doing pretty great in the App Store, but what about actual sales figures?
The developer of Terminology helps us understand the situation.
Apple Rejecting iPad Subscription Models on the App Store?
If the iPad is supposed to be the future of publishing, you’d expect a subscription based model here or there right? Well apparently not. If you’re curious as to why publications like Wired and Men’s Health sell individual issues at higher than average prices, it’s because they’re unable to adopt a subscription model.
Apple Launches “Newsstand” and “Radio” Sections in the App Store
So here we are again, talking about new sections Apple has introduced in the App Store. Newsstand and Radio, available here and here, feature applications to, ehm, read news and listen to online radios. Apps such as NYT, Instapaper, Reeder and Pandora, Last.fm and Sirius XM are in there.
Now I’m wondering: how long before a section that showcases apps optimized for the Retina Display? I’m tired of browsing AppShopper for that.
