Phone Disk: Mount & Browse Your iPhone In The Finder, No Jailbreak Required

They say one of the biggest advantages of jailbreaking your iPhone ( or iPad) is that you gain root access to the device. By root access they usually mean that the filesystem becomes visible to the end user, thus allowing people to play around with the device’s system files and modify stuff. From graphical modifications to file browsers available in Cydia to extra functionalities granted by access to hidden folders, root access is one of the most important aspects of jailbreak.

But it turns out, jailbreak isn’t required to access the iPhone’s internal files in the way most people would need: Phone Disk, a Mac (and Windows) app gone free until December 1st, lets you mount and browse your iDevice directly in the Finder without the need to jailbreak anything. Read more

FaceTime In The Middle Now Possible With A Jailbreak Hack

Whether it’s been blocked by carriers or Apple, FaceTime in the Middle East has been a highly discussed subject on tech blogs in the past weeks. First silently pulled from Apple’s website, then confirmed, then tested on Macs and iPods, the lack of FaceTime in those countries has pissed off quite a few users.

Now the story seems to be finally over with a hack available in Cydia that solves a problem caused by…we don’t know who caused it. The hack is called “FaceTime Hacktivator”, is developed by the iPhoneIslam team and it’s available for free in Cydia. Read more

How To Setup A Home Surveillance System Using FaceTime

How To Setup A Home Surveillance System Using FaceTime

Run this script on your Mac when you leave the house, you can call your Apple ID from your iPhone 4 phone number. The script will auto answer the FaceTime call, allowing you to check in on things. When you hang up, FaceTime will quit, and the script will continue to listen for incoming calls. When you get home, stop the script and FaceTime will no longer auto-answer your calls.

Rumor: The White iPhone 4 Has Been Canceled

Boy Genius Report claims that Apple has not only delayed the white iPhone 4, it’s been canceled:

According to a previous source of ours, we have been told that Apple in fact has no plans to release the white model iPhone 4. Our source hypothesizes another “delay” communicated around March leading us into an iPhone 5 release time-frame in June / July.

BGR also reports another delay will be announced in March. Truth be told, it makes sense. Why should Apple release “just a white model” a few months before the announcement of the iPhone 5 after all the manufacturing issues they had and they’re probably still having? To keep up with the promises they once made?

If the white iPhone 4 is just a color update and it’s got nothing more than that (ehm, Verizon), then it’s time to move on. On, as in iPhone 5.

Apple Delays White iPhone Again Until Spring 2011

So there you have it. The white iPhone 4 is basically not coming at all, at least not as we know it. Reuters reports:

Apple Inc said on Tuesday that it would delay release of the white iPhone yet again, this time until next spring.

“We’re sorry to disappoint customers waiting for the white iPhone again,” Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller said. When asked why the white phone would again be delayed, Muller declined to comment.

Ouch. The iPhone 5 is supposed to be announced by the same time next year. Or wait, maybe the “white iPhone 4” is going to become the “iPhone 5”, with an improved antenna design and the same “sandwich” look of the current model. And maybe a Verizon deal in there somewhere. Time will tell, as the wise men say. But unveiling a mid-generation iPhone in Spring is surely a strange move from Apple.
