moveAddict: Cut & Paste for Mac OS X

Mac users who owned a Windows machine miss one thing from Finder: cut & paste. The move command, the possibility to cut a file from its original position and paste it in another one without the need to copy it. Mac OS X lack this feature by default.

I’ve recently stumbled upon a nice little tweak by Kapeli, moveAddict, which enables the aforementioned functionality and doesn’t get in the way. It’s available for free (1 cut at a time), but you can buy a “Pro” version which lets you move multiple files at once. Of course, the app works with the standard ⌘ + X and ⌘ + V shortcuts, but you can opt for custom ones. The app lives in the menubar, and notifies you when a file has been cut and pasted.

Free, or 5 bucks for the paid version. Useful.

Apple Launches “Compare Macs” Option in Apple Store

Here’s why store.apple.com was down last night, and we didn’t even notice this when it got back up. Apple added a new “Compare Macs” option to the Apple Store, as first noticed by The Loop. The new option allows you to, ehm, compare various Mac models: you can compare price, tech specs, software and even the environmental report for each model. The interface design, as Apple’s tradition, is absolutely beautiful. It’s also very easy to use.

Well done, Apple. This will sure come in handy. To try the new “Compare Macs” option, just select a Mac and hit the button in the top bar - or hit this direct link.

Designers, Rejoice: Review for iPhone Lets You Easily Judge Mockups

Honestly, I didn’t know anything about this new app from Bohemian Coding - but boy it looks useful and beautiful. Review for iPhone helps designers in quickly exporting UI mockups from the Mac to an actual iOS device, so that they can judge their designs in seconds on a real unit.

Just drag the files from your Finder to the Review Sync app for Mac (which runs in the menubar) and they will be exported to the iPhone in seconds, so that you’ll be able to see whether you did a good job or not. For designers, this could turn out to be a huge time saver.

The MacBook Air Project: Modder Puts Mac Under Apple Keyboard

This is the reason why I love the modding community: they have no limits. Whether it’s about hardware or jailbreak / graphical modifications, modders always push themselves beyond the limitations and come up with exceptionals, custom creations.

Bart Reardon of The MacBook Air Project decided to try to fit a MacBook Air right under an Apple keyboard and make everything a single piece. Yes, a 1.6Ghz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM and 80GB hard drive computer inside a standard keyboard. He later thought of putting a Magic Trackpad next to the keyboard, too. He thinks that the device “will be used much beyond internet/email….maybe as an AppleTV replacement.”

Seriously, it’s awesome.

SyncMate for Mac

I had held off on reviewing SyncMate for some time now. Though when I finally bit the bullet, I found its unassuming looks mask an application with potential. Not only does SyncMate make syncing my Android phone to my Mac completely pretty easy, I’m able to share files with Macs and Windows PCs on my local network, dump files onto flash drives from specific folders, and keep my flash drive loaded with the latest college documents just in case.

Flash 10.1 for Mac Updated with Hardware Acceleration

MacRumors is reporting that Flash 10.1 for Mac has finally been updated to include support for hardware-accelerated decoding of video content, which offers a smoother playback and eats less battery. At least Adobe says so.

Adobe project manager Thibault Imbert:

“We just pushed a few minutes ago a new version of the Flash Player 10.1.82.76 containing a nice feature that was in beta until now called “Gala”. Yes, H.264 GPU decoding in Mac OSX is now officially enabled in the Flash Player.

You should notice now a nice difference when playing H.264 content on your Mac in terms of CPU usage. We rarely enable new features in security releases but we really wanted to enable such a cool feature.”
