Hey, My Fake MacBook Pro Runs OS X

Maybe. Maybe it’s just a Windows 7 skin. Damn, those Chinese manufacturers fooled us again. Thing is – we have seen “interesting” Apple knockoffs in the past, but this one beats them all. It’s a fake MacBook Pro that seems to be capable of running OS X out of the box, even if the website reports it ships with Windows 7. Hmmm. Maybe they just don’t want to get in any trouble with Apple, right?

As for the specs:

For 3100 yuan (about $466), it’s got a 14-inches 1376×768 LED backlit display in 16:9 ratio, powered by Intel Atom D510 1.66GHz processor, 2GB RAM, 320GB hard drive (5400rpm), based on Nvidia ION-2 platform in which you get dual graphics, Intel GMA 3150 and ION 2.

The machine also comes with a fake Apple logo, a Windows key (what?), three USB ports, a 1.3MP camera and a built-in SD card reader. 10 hours battery life. Not bad, right? Right? Come on, it’s basically a MacBook. I think.

Steve Jobs Says They’re Taking A “Giant Leap To Driverless Printing”

Ok, so AirPrint’s removal from OS X 10.6.5 left a few people disappointed. Users were expecting to be able to print from iOS 4.2 to any printer shared through a Mac or PC, but the feature didn’t make the cut in the final version of 10.6.5. Sure, you can achieve the same functionality using 3rd party tools like Printopia, but unofficial tweaks – even if well developed and stable – are never quite like Apple’s own implementation. In the case of AirPrint, mostly because it takes huge resources and teams to achieve stable and fast driverless printing.

That is exactly what Steve Jobs allegedly told a MacRumors forum member in a recent email exchange. Apple is doing the best they can to re-introduce the feature in the next iterations of OS X, and we have to wait. Read more

Mac OS X 10.6.5 Update Fixes MacBook Air Graphic Issues

A few weeks ago we reported of the graphic issues and kernel panics many users were experiencing on the new MacBook Airs. The issues got quickly reporte to Apple, which acknowledged them in a document leaked by BGR. With the latest Mac OS X 10.6.5 update, it seems like the issues have been fixed.

As Apple writes in a support document:

Symptoms

After waking from sleep, your MacBook Air display may flicker or fade from light to dark repeatedly.

Resolution

Download and apply the Mac OS X v10.6.5 update to resolve this issue.
