What Happens When Twitter for iPad Meets Youtube? YouPad
Call it a ripoff or “design inspiration”, an iPad app called YouPad, available in the App Store at $1.99, takes the experience and design elements seen in Twitter’s official iPad client and mixes them with Youtube. The result, as you can see from the screenshots, is quite…curious.
The FalconsApp developers claim that the app has been featured in Apple’s “New & Awesome” category, and while we still have to see such a section show up in the App Store, we do believe them when they say YouPad provides a revolutionary way to browse Youtube. Twitter for iPad was very innovative, too. The app seems to feature the same stacking panels navigation, the same background, the same sidebar with icons to browse different sections of Loren Brichter’s application. We can’t judge on stability and animations, but these developers sure have a thing for this kind of interface.
But hey – perhaps it really is a revolutionary app. If you dare to go ahead and purchase YouPad, it’s only $1.99 in the App Store. If you, however, don’t like Twitter for iPad at all, then you should stay away from this one.
Penultimate for iPad Adds AirPrint Support, Multi-Page Actions
Penultimate is one of the most popular productivity apps for the iPad that was featured by Apple several times in the past (it still holds the #3 position in the Top Paid chart) and we covered as well during its update cycle. When the iPad was released last year, Penultimate was one of the first apps to become really, really popular among early adopters and grant the developers thousands of dollars in revenue.
The latest update to Penultimate, version 2.3, adds full support for AirPrint (iOS 4.2 or later required) and multiple page actions that allow users to email, print or delete different sets of pages within a single notebook. Together with other stability and performance improvements, Penultimate really stands out in the handwriting / sketching panorama of apps for iPad.
Penultimate is available at $0.99 in the App Store.
iPad Run Over By Chrysler PT Cruiser, Still Works
See the iPad above? That’s what happens when a Chrysler PT Cruiser, this lovely car, runs over it with its front and rear wheels. The “problem”, or perhaps the most surprising thing in this accident, is that the iPad still works. The glass is shattered, but the Home button / multitouch / accelerometer are all working.
As reported by our friends at TUAW, the iPad was inside a standard Apple Case when the PT Cruiser ran over it and as you can see in the video after the break the device is completely functional. Sure, it might not be a wise move to keep using that iPad with all that broken glass on screen, but this says a lot about the build quality and durability of Apple’s products over time and against the most serious accidents.
At least that poor iPad didn’t get shot like this MacBook. Read more
World Of Goo Sells 125K In First Month: 2D Boy Talks Sales, Strategies, And Consoles
World of Goo has had incredible sales as it launched on the iPad, eventually reaching the #2 spot after a $5 price drop from $10 and lots of press coverage. In its first month of sales, the Mac famous strategy slash flubber-venture sold approximately 125,000 copies in the iPad’s App Store, having been exalted by the media on numerous occasions as well as by Apple, deservedly featuring World of Goo on the store’s front page. 2D Boy has published a rather lengthy analysis on their indie title, and we encourage you to click past the break for an overview of some of the finer points.

Apple Dominating Download-To-Own Video Market
When it comes to purchasing movies, iTunes (not Amazon) is still everyone’s de facto service according to iSuppli. With two thirds of the market under it’s control, Apple accounted for 64.5 percent for Internet video on-demand for 2010, competing with Amazon’s growing user base and Microsoft’s Xbox market.
“The iTunes online store showed remarkable competitive resilience last year in the U.S. EST/iVOD movie business, staving off a growing field of tough challengers while keeping pace with an dramatic expansion for the overall market,” said Arash Amel, research director, digital media, for IHS.
While Apple hasn’t maintained their lead of 74.4 percent market-share since 2009, the iPad and the Apple TV have played a large role in keeping Apple at the top of their game. We imagine that with the next iPad and future updates for the Apple TV (it can’t be much of a hobby driving that 64.5 percent market share can it?), Apple will continue to deliver a seamless market experience by staying competitive in both affordability and how content is delivered. Too, what if Apple ever launches that unicorn status Apple television?
Are iOS Game Prices Creating Culture of Disposability? Nintendo Boss Thinks So
The head honcho of Nintendo North America, Reggie Fils-Aime has criticized the price levels of apps in the iTunes App Store claiming that the low prices create a “mentality” for consumers that portable games should only be a few dollars. Fils-Aimes who is the Nintendo North American president and chief operating officer felt that such a mentality also breeds a culture that believes content is disposable because of the cheap price and that this was one of the gaming industries biggest risks today.
Whilst Fils-Aime’s is not the most independent commentator on this issue with his company’s Nintendo DS platform directly competing with the gaming aspects of iOS, his points do have some validity. Games on the App store have tended to be below $5 compared to DS and PSP games that are typically well above that range. The presumption is the Fils-Aime’s fears that the App store prices will spread across to all platforms and lead to more gimmicky, simplistic games rather than well though out, in-depth game experiences.
