Enable Keyword Filtering In Tweetie for Mac With a Preference Panel

Tweetie for Mac users have been able to activate keyword filtering for more than a year using a simple Terminal hack. For all those who prefer a graphical interface to a command line hack, however, TweetiePrefs is here to help.

Developed by Ash White and available for free here, TweetiePrefs lives in System Preferences and allows you to easily create, delete and activate filters for Tweetie. Every time you’ll create or delete a filter, you’ll have to relaunch Tweetie for changes to take effect.

Works fine, and it’s easy to use. Give it a try.

Although Firemint already announced a Mac version of award-winning game Flight Control, dubbed Flight Control HD, will be released in the Mac App Store, Mac users will be able to download the game later this month via Steam.

From the official Firemint blog:

The Steam version of Flight Control HD will feature a brand-new, exclusive map. The new “Stunt Flying” map will introduce an exciting new gameplay element, where you can score extra points for flying through a course of stunt cones before landing. Flight Control HD for Steam will also feature Steam achievements and leaderboards, and will be available world-wide.

Mac gaming got a lot more interesting since the release of Steam, and it’s about to get even better with the Mac App Store. In case you haven’t yet, go check out Flight Control for iPhone and iPad here and here.

StreamToMe Streams Music and Video From Your Computer To iOS

With all the talk about iTunes’ “exciting announcement” and the possibilities of a cloud-based iTunes streaming and storage solution, I decided to take a step back to cover one of my favorite apps for iPhone and iPad, an app that allows you to stream audio and video from any computer to any iOS device.

The app is called StreamToMe, and unlike the popular Air Video it can stream music just fine, whether it’s organized in your iTunes library or stored somewhere else on your computer. I keep mine in Dropbox and it works just fine. Not to mention video, which works flawlessly with StreamToMe. So let’s see what you have to do to get things up and running. Read more

The iPadification of OS X – Part II

The iPadification of OS X – Part II

iOS and OS X may share some DNA, but irreconcilable differences remain. The two OSs serve two different usage models. As a result, Apple is likely to grow them separately instead of trying to bastardize iOS into a one-OS-fits-all. If we have doubts, we can go back and look at what happened with Windows shoehorned onto a Tablet PC.

So: Now that I’ve taken both sides—Yes, iOS will be the Apple OS; No, it won’t—what do I really believe? I think it’s a matter of numbers and layers of software silt.

Think about it: iOS 5 and Lion could come out together sometime next summer.

Letterbox Now 10.6.5 Compatible

Letterbox is a must-have plugin for Apple Mail which takes advantage of widescreen monitors and lets you display messages in a 3-column widescreen view. Apple Mail doesn’t support this by default.

The plugin is now fully 10.6.5 compatible, all you have to do is head over the official website, download the bundle and double click on it to install. Mail will restart and the plugin will be activated. In Mail’s preferences window you’ll be able to access Letterbox’s options, which allow you to switch back to preview pane at the bottom, enable alternate row colors and show a divider line between rows. From Apple’s Newton to Evernote

From Apple’s Newton to Evernote

The company was founded by Stepan Pachikov, who was kind of this brilliant mad scientist from Russia. He and his team were behind a lot of the pioneering work that went into the Apple Newton, fifteen years ago. The handwriting recognition engine was built by these guys. They had a company called ParaGraph, which Apple licensed.
So the original idea really started in the Newton days.

Evernote for iOS also got a nice update today with iOS 4.2 support, audio note improvements and printing.

Microsoft Targets Mac’s Lack Of Blu-Ray Support In Latest Windows 7 Ad

I haven’t really ever felt like needing to watch a Blu-Ray movie on my MacBook Pro, but apparently the folks down at Redmond think it’s worth producing an ad focused on it. In order to promote entertainment on Windows 7 machines versus Mac machines through the support of Blu-Ray disks, the video we’re referring to shows a Mac and a PC on flight, watching Avatar on the PC’s screen.

It’s nice and well-realized, overall. Check it out below. Read more

Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Coming To The Mac

GTA, one of the most popular “mature” videogame series which sold million of copies on consoles and handhelds, is coming to the Mac. And it’s coming with a trilogy, a package containing GTA III (the first 3D episode of the series), GTA Vice City and the acclaimed GTA: San Andreas, my favorite GTA episode so far. The games originally came out on Sony’s PlayStation 2.

The Grand Theft Auto series has been one of the most highly demanded titles by the Mac community. The availability of this incredible franchise on the Mac underscores TransGaming’s role in transforming the overall Mac gaming market,” commented Vikas Gupta, President & CEO of TransGaming, in the press release. “These games will be widely available and will be a great catalyst to the increasing popularity of gaming on the Mac.

GTA Trilogy for Mac will be released on November 22nd. You can preorder it now on Amazon. Can’t wait.
